Product Care & Help Guide

Chairs Care & Maintenance Guide

At FURNITURE FOR HOME, our chairs are designed for everyday household use. Regular care can help maintain their appearance, comfort and structural condition over time.

Please Note: Always follow any product-specific care label or instructions supplied with your chair. Where product-specific instructions differ from this general guide, the product-specific instructions should take priority.

1. Assembly & Initial Placement

  • Tighten Bolts Gradually: When assembling a chair, fit all bolts and fasteners loosely first. Place the chair upright on a flat, level surface before gradually tightening all fasteners securely and evenly.
  • Floor Protection: If your chair is supplied with felt, nylon or other protective floor glides, check that they remain securely fitted beneath each applicable chair leg. Protective glides can help reduce the risk of scratching hardwood, laminate or tiled flooring.
  • Sunlight & Heat Sources: Avoid placing upholstered or timber chairs immediately beside radiators, heaters or other strong heat sources. Prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight may also cause some fabrics, finishes or timber surfaces to fade, dry or change appearance over time.

2. Upholstery Care

Woven Fabric & Velvet

Vacuum upholstery regularly using low suction and a suitable upholstery attachment to remove dust and debris.

For accidental spills:

  • Blot the affected area promptly with a clean, dry and absorbent white cloth;
  • Avoid aggressive rubbing or scrubbing;
  • Do not soak the upholstery; and
  • Follow any product-specific cleaning instructions or care labels supplied with the chair.

*Before using any upholstery cleaning product, test it on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Faux Leather / PU

Remove surface dust using a soft, dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. Where additional cleaning is required, use a small amount of mild, neutral cleaning solution suitable for the specific material and wipe away any remaining moisture afterwards.

Avoid: Abrasive cleaning pads, strong solvents, alcohol-based cleaners (unless specifically approved), bleach, and harsh chemical degreasers. Always follow any product-specific care instructions supplied with the chair.

3. Timber & Metal Frame Care

Wooden Frames

  • Dust wooden surfaces regularly using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
  • For deeper cleaning, use only a cleaning product suitable for the specific timber, veneer or surface finish.
  • Do not allow water or cleaning solution to remain pooled on wooden surfaces, and wipe away excess moisture promptly.

Metal Frames and Legs

  • Clean powder-coated or painted metal surfaces using a soft, slightly damp cloth, then wipe dry.
  • Avoid abrasive pads and strongly acidic or alkaline household cleaning products, as these may damage certain finishes.

4. Periodic Structural Inspection

Periodic Fastener Check

Normal everyday movement can gradually loosen some chair fasteners. We recommend inspecting accessible bolts, screws and fittings approximately every 3 to 6 months, depending on frequency of use.

Where necessary, carefully re-tighten loose fasteners using the appropriate tool. Do not overtighten, as excessive force may damage the fitting or surrounding material.

5. Safe Use

  • Use chairs only for their intended domestic seating purpose.
  • Do not stand, climb or repeatedly rock on a chair unless the particular product has been specifically designed for that purpose.
  • If a chair becomes unstable, unusually loose, cracked, damaged or structurally compromised, stop using it until the cause has been inspected and corrected.

If you are unsure about the correct care or maintenance procedure for a particular chair, please contact our Customer Care Team before applying cleaning products or attempting repairs.
